PROJECT OVERVIEW
Quantum Therapy PC, a Portland-based physical therapy clinic specializing in myofascial release, needed to expand their client base through improved online presence. Their outdated website and poor search visibility were limiting their ability to compete in Portland's competitive healthcare market.
Project Goals:
Modernize website design to better showcase professional services
Improve user experience and site navigation
Increase organic search visibility through strategic SEO
Establish stronger online presence in Portland's healthcare landscape
Before
After
THE CHALLENGE
Quantum Therapy PC faced critical barriers to growth:
Organic traffic remained stagnant before SEO and design improvements (Semrush, 2023)
Key Usability Issues Identified:
Poor Search Visibility – Ranking 35th in Google search results for key services
Outdated Design – Website didn't reflect the professionalism of their practice
Weak Online Presence – No social media integration or blog content
Limited Discoverability – Not appearing in searches when potential clients needed myofascial release services
These issues directly impacted their ability to attract new clients in a competitive local market where top competitors dominated search results.
RESEARCH & STRATEGY
To understand the competitive landscape and identify opportunities, I conducted systematic competitive analysis of top-ranking physical therapy providers in Portland.
Competitive Analysis
I analyzed the top competitors in Google search results to identify patterns in their success:
Key Findings:
SEO Strategy:
Top competitor strategically named their business "Portland Myofascial Release," using the primary keyword in their company name
Leading competitors consistently used "Myofascial Release Portland, Oregon" throughout their content
Some high-ranking sites maintained active blogs with regular content updates
Online Presence:
All top competitors had active social media profiles (Facebook, Instagram) linked from their websites
Successful competitors incorporated backlinks to industry authorities and professional networks
Sites featured patient testimonials and clear service descriptions
User Experience:
Clean, modern designs with professional photography
Clear service information and easy-to-find contact details
Mobile-responsive layouts optimized for local search
Key Insight: Competitors winning in search results combined strategic keyword usage with strong content marketing (blogs) and social proof (testimonials, backlinks to industry experts). To compete, Quantum Therapy PC needed both technical SEO improvements and enhanced online credibility.
THE SOLUTION
My approach focused on three strategic areas: website redesign for improved user experience, technical SEO optimization, and building online authority.
1. Website Redesign: Before & After
Before
After
The Problem: The site's outdated design and confusing navigation made it difficult for users to find information. The original main navigation menu (Home, MFR, About, Contact, Testimonials) scattered related content and buried critical resources like intake forms. While the client initially requested only SEO improvements, I identified that design and UX issues were limiting conversion potential and even if search rankings improved, the poor experience could drive visitors away.
The Solution: I recommended pairing SEO work with a complete redesign and navigation overhaul. The updated site features:
Navigation Restructure:
Moved testimonials to homepage (simplifying navigation and establishing trust upfront)
Created "About" dropdown menu organizing related content: About Us, What is MFR?, FAQs
Elevated "Intake Forms" to top-level navigation (addressing client concern about form discoverability)
Added "Blog" to main nav to support content marketing strategy
Design Improvements:
Modern, clean layout with clear visual hierarchy
Professional imagery reflecting quality of care
Improved information architecture making services easy to understan
Enhanced mobile responsiveness for on-the-go users
Prominent CTAs guiding users toward booking appointments
Why It Matters: Clear navigation helps users find what they need without frustration. By grouping related information (About, What is MFR, FAQs under one dropdown) and making intake forms immediately accessible, the redesign reduces unnecessary steps in the path from browsing to booking.
2. SEO Optimization
Keyword Strategy:
Integrated "Myofascial Release Portland Oregon" throughout site content naturally
Optimized page titles, meta descriptions, and headers with target keywords
Created location-specific content emphasizing Portland service area and local expertise
Content Development:
Encouraged and guided client to write her first blog post, establishing foundation for ongoing content marketing
Created educational content explaining myofascial release benefits in accessible language
Developed FAQ page addressing common patient questions and concerns
Structured content to answer search queries potential patients were asking
Technical SEO:
Improved site structure and navigation for better search engine crawlability
Optimized page load speed and mobile responsiveness (critical for local search)
Implemented schema markup for local business to enhance search visibility
Created SEO-friendly URL structure
3. Building Online Presence
Social Media Strategy:
Convinced client to establish first-ever social media presence on Facebook and Instagram
Created profiles positioning Quantum Therapy PC in Portland's wellness community
Integrated social links throughout website to drive cross-platform engagement
Developed strategy to repurpose blog content for social media, creating sustainable content ecosystem
Link Building & Credibility:
Added backlinks to respected myofascial release experts and industry authorities
Connected with local Portland healthcare networks
Prominently featured client testimonials on homepage
Highlighted professional credentials and expertise
Why It Matters: The client had no online presence beyond her website - missing opportunities for discovery, engagement, and trust-building. By creating an interconnected digital ecosystem (website → blog → social media), I helped create additional ways for potential patients to discover and connect with the practice.
Results
The combined redesign, SEO strategy, and digital presence expansion delivered measurable business impact within months of launch.
Measurable Outcomes:

Organic Traffic Surge: Significant increase in organic traffic beginning August 2023, one month after launch (Semrush)
Client Base Doubled: Business census doubled following website launch and SEO implementation
Established Digital Presence: Created first-ever social media presence (Facebook, Instagram) and blog

Key Takeaways
What Worked:
Advocating beyond the brief: Client initially requested only SEO, but addressing UX and navigation issues created significantly greater impact
Strategic navigation redesign: Elevating intake forms and organizing content logically removed key obstacles for users
Holistic digital strategy: Combining website redesign + blog + social media created multiple discovery channels
Competitive analysis as roadmap: Understanding top competitors' tactics provided clear, actionable strategy
Inspiring content creation: Encouraging client to write her first blog post established foundation for ongoing marketing
What I'd Do Differently:
Conduct user testing on navigation structure to validate information architecture decisions before launch
Set up more detailed conversion tracking to measure specific actions (form downloads, contact submissions)
Develop a content calendar earlier to help client maintain momentum with blog and social posts
Document patient journey more thoroughly to identify additional improvement opportunities
Biggest Lesson:
Sometimes the problem clients identify isn't the complete picture. The client thought she needed SEO help, but outdated design, confusing navigation, and lack of online presence were equally limiting growth. By taking a strategic view of her business goals (expand client base) rather than just executing her solution request (SEO only), I delivered comprehensive improvements that doubled her business.
For local service businesses, success requires multiple pieces working together: being found (SEO), building trust (modern design + testimonials), and removing obstacles (intuitive navigation + easy access to forms). This project reinforced that effective design strategy means solving the real problem, not just the stated one.
